Congressman Peter DeFazio’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has passed the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act out of committee on a bipartisan vote.

A release said the five-year, $547 billion bill, which directs federal investment in highways, bridges, transit and rail, is now scheduled for a vote by the full House the week of June 28th.

DeFazio said, “The INVEST in America Act puts a core piece of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan into legislative text and seizes his once-in-a-generation opportunity to move our transportation system out of the 1950s and toward our clean energy future”. DeFazio said the legislation will create and sustain good paying jobs, many of which don’t require a college degree. He said it will “…restore our global competitiveness, tackle climate change head-on, and improve the lives of all Oregonians”. DeFazio said the bill will also fund much-needed improvements and infrastructure around southwestern Oregon and spur economic growth across the state.
