Sutherlin Police jailed a man Saturday morning, after an alleged kidnapping incident that began in Washington State on Friday night.

An SPD report said 41-year old Demetrius McCain reportedly compelled a woman from her hotel room in Fife, southeast of Tacoma. The report said throughout the next twelve hours, McCain allegedly drove back and forth from Portland to Lebanon, and made a trip to Mount Hood. The victim allegedly tried to exit the vehicle several times but McCain physically assaulted her to keep her in the vehicle, and threw her cell phone out of the vehicle so she could not contact law enforcement.

The report said the victim claimed McCain smoke methamphetamine while driving and occasionally pulled her hair and assaulted her for a variety of reasons. Eventually the suspect stopped at a gas station in Drain where the victim was allowed to use the restroom. The report said McCain dragged the woman out the bathroom but she was able to write a note asking for help, which was tossed at an employee while she was being dragged.

The report said in Sutherlin, McCain used physical force to remove another woman from her vehicle, in an attempt to steal it. Several witnesses reported the man was driving recklessly. Sutherlin Police located McCain and placed him into custody.

Charges included first-degree kidnapping, third-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault, menacing, attempted unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving, violating a restraining order, and interfering with making a police report. Bail was set at $461,250.
