On Thursday, the Oregon House voted to pass Senate Bill 5514 A: https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Measures/Overview/SB5514.

A release from Oregon House Democrats said the legislation set the State School Fund budget at a record $9.3 billion. That is a 3.3 percent increase from the current biennium. The release said those funds will be combined with almost $4.6 billion in property taxes and other local revenues for distribution through the school revenue formula.

Democratic Representative Susan McLain of Hillsboro said, “We are creating record investments in our public school system this session”.

The release said in addition to the funds contained in that bill, schools will continue to receive funding from the Student Success Act, which directs corporate tax revenue back to school classrooms and school programs with an emphasis on meeting the needs of Oregon’s Black, Indigenous, People of Color students.

The proposal passed 36-20 and now heads to the Governor’s desk.
