REEDSPORT TO STOP ISSUING BURN PERMITS

June 2, 2021 3:30 a.m.

Covering coastal Douglas County:

For the 9th year in a row, the Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department will not issue burn barrel or debris burning permits with the Reedsport city limits for the 2021 fire season.

A release from the City of Reedsport said there will be no exceptions to this policy for the duration of fire season.

The fire department will stop issuing permits on Friday. This will occur at the same time that Coos Forest Protective Association will announce that fire season has started. The release said it is being implemented:

*To protect the welfare of the community

*Reduce the cost of fire operations

*Be in alignment with neighboring fire protection agencies

*To provide for firefighter safety

The release said warming fires, otherwise known as campfires or recreation fires, for cooking and other non-debris burning activities, are still allowed year-round except during extreme fire danger and do not require a permit.
