A Roseburg man is hospitalized after a motorcycle versus vehicle crash on Friday afternoon.

Sergeant Daniel Allen of Roseburg Police said at 1:35 p.m. officers and medics responded to the report that a street motorcycle had struck an SUV near the corner of West Harvard and West Stanton. The 26-year old motorcyclist had a valid motorcycle endorsement, and was transported by ambulance to CHI Mercy Medical Center. He was later flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for treatment of head injuries. Allen said that the motorcyclist was wearing an approved helmet.

The driver of the SUV, a 64-year old Sutherlin woman was not injured but was examined at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Allen said the motorcycle was badly damaged by the collision and was seized as potential evidence by RPD, which is investigating whether speed was a factor in the collision.

Allen said the initial investigation indicated the motorcycle was traveling east on Harvard in the inside lane of travel when it passed a slower vehicle by swerving into the outside lane. Meanwhile the SUV was turning off of Harvard onto Stanton at about the same time, taking it into the path of the motorcycle, with collided with the right side of the second vehicle.

The investigation continues and the names of those involved are not being released at this time.
