31 more people have received new positive test results for COVID-19 in Douglas County, as of Thursday.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer told News Radio 1240 KQEN that this is the highest number of daily cases since early February and one of the highest number of cases in a week, since the pandemic began. Dannenhoffer said this is likely due to variants in the area, a relatively low rate of vaccination and very little social distancing and masking.

An update from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said the total number of cases is now at 3,512. Of those, 3,347 are people that have received positive test results and 165 are presumptive. There have been 73 deaths. 21 Douglas County COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 8 locally and 13 outside the area. 207 people are in isolation. 593 people are in quarantine. That means the staff with the Douglas Public Health Network are supporting 800 people that are either in isolation or quarantine.
