A team of students at Sutherlin High School is one of the winners in a media contest designed to increase awareness about workplace safety for young workers.

A release from the Oregon Department of Consumer & Business Services said high school students across the state were invited to participate in the annual contest organized by the Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition. For the first time, a graphic design category was included along with the long-running video category. The contest theme was “Work. It can be more dangerous than you think”.

The top winner in the video category was “Safety – The Virtual Way” produced by Parkrose High School in Portland. They were awarded $500.

In graphic design:

* “Don’t Let Your Safety Stumble” from Ridgeview High School in Redmond was the $500 winner.

* ”Wire Trip” from Pendleton High School was the $400 winner.

* “Dangerous Work” from Sutherlin High School was the $300 winner.
