The Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup has completed its review of the federal process and determined that the Phizer COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for youth ages 12 to 15.
A release from Governor Kate Brown said the workgroup provided its confirmation to the governors of Oregon, California, Nevada and Washington on Wednesday night.
On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of the vaccine for that age group. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices affirmed that decision on Wednesday, leading to the workgroup’s review.
Brown said, “This is great news for Oregon children, parents and families”.
The Oregon Health Authority has informed health care providers that vaccinations with the Phizer vaccine can begin for youth ages 12 to 15 immediately.
