The Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe has responded to a vote by the Roseburg School Board that resulted in the name of sports teams at Roseburg High School, remaining the Indians.

CEO Michael Rondeau released a statement Thursday that said, “The Cow Creek Tribe is appreciative that students, staff and the Roseburg School Board went through the process of considering options. The process of sincere thought is important and the Tribe is respectful of how everyone involved worked to their conclusion”.

Wednesday night the school board voted 5-1 to “respectfully retire the mascot”. However, school district policy requires that a decision on that level have a unanimous vote. Board member Charles Lee cast the lone no vote, which resulted in RHS keeping the name.
