A new bill passed in the Oregon House on Tuesday that would designate May 22nd as Crater Lake National Park Day.

A release from State Representatives Vikki Breese-Iverson and E. Warner Reschke said the legislation would recognize a famous Oregon landmark and the deepest lake in the United States.

The release said Crater Lake is the clearest lake on the planet and boasts some of the purest water which is comprised entirely of snowfall and rain.

Breese-Iverson said, “Oregon’s natural environment is one of the greatest things about our state”. She said it’s important to recognize the state’s unique environments to not only celebrate Oregon’s natural beauty, but also the benefits they bring through scenic tourism and getting more people outside to enjoy nature.

Reschke said, “Crater Lake is Oregon’s only National Park, renowned for its deep blue water and the 360-degree bowl that surrounds this majestic lake”. He said residents of the region are fortunate to be able to enjoy it with a short day-trip. He said, “…Crater Lake National Park Day recognizes this park as a defining landmark of Oregon”.
