Governor Kate Brown and the co-chair of Oregon’s House Redistricting Committee have responded to the announcement of the addition of a sixth U.S. House seat for Oregon.

On Twitter, Brown said, “Every Oregonian’s voice matters, and it is great news that as our state continues to grow we get an additional seat in Congress to represent us. Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2002 Census to make sure you were counted”.

Representative Andrea Salinas said, “Today’s news is exciting and shows Oregon continues to grow and become more and more diverse”. She said the state’s growth and changing demographics require a careful redistricting process that includes “…the voices, needs and stories of all Oregonians, including those who’ve been traditionally shut out of the political process”.

Salinas said she is committed to ensuring that the process is inclusive, transparent, fair and responsive to the changing nature of the state.

On Monday, the U.S. Census Bureau delivered apportionment results to President Biden. It showed that Oregon’s population increased by 10.6 percent to just over 4.2 million.
