A Portland man was jailed following an attempt to elude and reckless driving incident on Sunday.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 7:00 p.m. a deputy observed a sedan traveling southbound through Reedsport on Winchester Avenue at a very high rate of speed. The deputy began a pursuit and once the vehicle being chased got over the Schofield Bridge, it stopped abruptly in the 1,000 block of Winchester. As the deputy was getting out of his vehicle, the suspect allegedly hit the accelerator again, going further into a parking lot. The deputy got back in his vehicle, blocking the suspect’s vehicle in.

After some negotiation, the man got out of his vehicle and was taken into custody.

After arraignment, the 33-year old was held on $10,000 bail.
