April 6, 2021 4:00 a.m.

Douglas County had its largest drive through vaccine event to date on Saturday.

A release from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said the Douglas County Commissioners, Douglas Public Health Network and Aviva Health collaborated on the event which was held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Over 100 staff from the organizations along with volunteers administered 1,068 Pfizer first and second dose vaccines, and 186 Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccines, for a total of 1,254 vaccines. Additional outreach efforts led to 17 people staying at the Roseburg Rescue Mission and the Samaritan Inn being vaccinated as well.

The mass vaccination event ran from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and all residents who were previously eligible as well as all newly eligible residents were invited to schedule an appointment. In addition, residents that received their first dose of the Phizer vaccine at a March 13th event, were invited to return for their second dose at this event.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer said he is pleased that so many people were able to be vaccinated in one day, rivaling efforts in much larger counties. Dannenhoffer called the event, “a roaring success”.

Dannenhoffer will have another COVID-19 Facebook Live event Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. on the DPHN Facebook page. He will also be on Inside Douglas County on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. on News Radio 1240 KQEN.
