A Winston man was cited for DUII-alcohol after a crash on private timber land on Thursday afternoon.

Information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 4:20 p.m. the man called DCSO dispatchers and said he had wrecked his work truck off the side of a logging road several miles up Hinkle Creek. The driver said the crash had taken place several hours earlier and he believed that he had broken both of his legs.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, he found the 28-year old man lying on the ground complaining of leg and back pain. While speaking with the driver, the man reportedly was acting belligerent and the odor of an alcoholic beverage could be smelled. The driver denied that he had been drinking earlier in the day.

The report said coworkers showed up and said the man had left their jobsite earlier to get some fuel on another site.

The man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. Staff advised that he had a fractured leg and additional injuries to his neck. The driver refused to talk to the deputy and was cited. He was later transferred to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.
