Earlier this week, the New York Times, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and other media outlets, broke news about President Biden’s soon to be announced “Build Back Better” plan to boost the economy, which is expected to include a surface transportation bill led by Congressman Peter DeFazio.

The Fourth District Congressman chairs the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

A release said DeFazio has already participated in several White House Meetings with President Biden, Vice President Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on the need for transformative infrastructure legislation. The release said in February, President Biden remarked in one of these meetings, that he could, “hardly wait to sit down with Peter DeFazio to work on infrastructure”.

The House of Representatives passed a version of DeFazio’s plan in July of 2020 by a bipartisan vote of 233-188. The release said it would rebuild American infrastructure – not only roads, bridges, rail and transit systems, but also wastewater systems, schools, housing, broadband access and much more. DeFazio said it would support American manufacturing and ingenuity and create millions of jobs that can’t be exported, all while putting the country on a path towards zero pollution, making communities and roads safer, and addressing long-standing disparities.

The release said DeFazio will kick off the legislative process for a comprehensive infrastructure package in May as his committee takes up his surface transportation bill.
