TRIBE OPENS COVID-19 VACCINATIONS TO SENIORS OVER AGE 60

The Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe is offering COVID-19 vaccinations to Douglas County seniors over age 60 at Seven Feathers Casino Resort.

Dr. Sharon Stanphill, Chief Health Officer of the Cow Creek Health and Wellness Center said, “We’ve been working hard to vaccinate our Tribal families as well as our employees and their families and we’re delighted we can now reach out to the community at large”.

A release said the senior vaccine opportunity is made possible by a four-way partnership of the Cow Creek Tribe, along with the Coquille Tribe, the Indian Health Service and the Oregon Health Authority. OHA and INS collaborated to provide a vaccine supply which the two Tribes are splitting. The vaccine opportunity requires two doses given 21 days apart.

Michael Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer of the Cow Creek Tribe, said they are glad to be helping local health agencies protect senior citizens are who are part of an age segment that is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. He noted that sharing this resource with the Tribe’s neighbors reflects the traditional culture of Pacific Coast Tribes. He said, “Our Potlatch tradition is all about assisting those around us whenever we have the chance”.

Vaccines will be available Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through April 30th. Call 691-2483 to schedule a vaccine appointment.

The release said the supply of vaccine is limited and shots are available by appointment only.
