A Riddle man sustained minor injuries in an airplane crash at the Myrtle Creek Municipal Airport on Tuesday.

Detective Kevin Taggart of the Myrtle Creek Police said just before 4:50 p.m. officers responded to the airport and found a brown and white Piper Cherokee airplane that was nose down in a plowed field next to the runway.

Taggart said the pilot, a 72-year old, told police that during the landing process the airplane was caught in a crosswind. He said the plane left the runway and hit plowed dirt, causing the plane to spin and nose down into the ground.

The pilot was treated on the scene. The plane had extensive front-end damage from the crash.

Taggart said the Federal Aviation Administration was notified and a report was sent to them.
