A Roseburg man was charged with felony strangulation on Sunday night.

Information from Roseburg Police said at around 11:55 p.m. 30-year old Johnathan Katter reportedly placed a victim in a choke hold by getting behind her and encircling his arm around her neck, after the two hit and shoved each other, in the 1800 block of Southeast Eddy.

The victim told police that she couldn’t breath and started to see “tunnel vision” and black as the choke hold continued.

The report said Katter later corroborated the incident and said the victim needed to calm down so he tried to put her to sleep by putting her in a sleeper hold.

Katter was jailed on $50,000 bail.
