MAN DECEASED IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IDENTIFIED

March 11, 2021 12:00 p.m.

The man deceased following an officer involved shooting Tuesday night in Reedsport, has been identified.

Sergeant Daniel Allen of the Roseburg Police said the suspect in the incident was 30-year old David Ruozi Junior, identified as a transient. He had been named by the Springfield Police Department, as the suspect in the recent homicide of 70-year old Richard Marshall.

Allen said over the course of several days leading up to the traffic stop, Springfield Police detectives had been in a number of coastal towns searching for Ruozi.

Tuesday night at about 5:45 p.m. law enforcement conducted a traffic stop. Another person in the vehicle was taken into custody. During the course of the stop, Ruozi allegedly became hostile and it became apparent he was armed. Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation for several hours without success. At approximately 10:45 p.m., shots were fired at the scene.

Allen said at this time, the law enforcement officers involved are on paid administrative leave, as is routine while an investigation is being conducted. The names of the officers involved are not being released at this time.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is continuing its investigation into the officer involved shooting.
