A suspect is deceased following an officer involved shooting in Reedsport on Tuesday night.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 5:45 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 101 and Winchester Avenue. One person was detained. O’Dell said another person in the vehicle became hostile and negotiations began.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the area. Deputies with the DCSO Crisis Negotiations Team continued to negotiate with the individual for several hours in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

O’Dell said at about 10:45 p.m. shots were fired at the scene. The suspect, whose name is being withheld, was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and took over the investigation.

A section of Highway 101 was closed for several hours due to the situation.
