A Gardiner man was jailed after eluding police on Thursday night.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just before 7:00 p.m. a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle on Highway 101 in Gardiner. The report said the motorcycle had allegedly been involved in a prior elude incident in Florence.

When the stop was initiated, the vehicle continued southbound on the highway at a high rate of speed. The report said the motorcycle turned around multiple times before eventually giving up at the intersection of the highway and Marsh Street in Gardiner.

23-year old Shane Avery was charged with attempting to elude police, reckless driving and for interfering with a police officer. He was released from custody on Friday.
