A Roseburg infant died in a single vehicle wreck in Clatsop County on Monday, and the vehicle’s driver is facing manslaughter and other charges.
A report from Oregon State Police said just after 6:00 p.m. troopers and emergency personnel responded to the crash on Ecola State Park Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a sedan operated by 23-year old Rony Tomas-Garcia of Seaside was southbound when it veered off the road, struck a tree, and came to rest on its top.
The report said a three and-a-half month old baby girl sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The child’s mother, 20-year old Esperanza Martin-Ramirez of Roseburg was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Oregon Health and Science University.
Tomas-Garcia was charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless driving and DUII. He was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail.
