A Canyonville man was jailed on a strangulation charge on Tuesday.

A DCSO report said at about 1:45 a.m. a man called dispatch and reported that he had been hit with a metal rod after an argument in the 100 block of Wilson Street.

The report said an investigation revealed the caller was highly intoxicated and had started the argument by banging the metal rod up against the wall and bed. The report said a victim woke up scared and hid in a closet. The man is then accused of grabbing the victim in anger and putting her on the living room floor with his forearm up against the bottom of her throat, keeping her from being able to breathe. The report said the man then punched the woman in the eye.

The report said the victim hit the man with the metal rod once on the right forearm to get him off of her.

The 36-year old was charged with strangulation and for fourth-degree assault. Bail was set at $12,500.
