February 7, 2021 6:15 a.m.

A student at Myrtle Creek Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

A release issued Saturday night from Superintendent Kate McLaughlin said the South Umpqua School District is working with the Douglas Public Health Network to respond to the news and protect the health of the school community.

McLaughlin said staff, and parents of the children in the cohort that a student tested positive was in, have been notified. Those impacted have been asked to quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Staff from DPHN will be in daily contact with parents of those exposed to provide additional monitoring.

McLaughlin said the district will continue to follow and maintain guidelines from the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education.
