A presentation titled “Racism in Oregon History” will be featured in a Facebook Live streaming event offered by the Roseburg Public Library.
Library Director Kris Wiley said Eliza Canty-Jones and Kerry Tymchuk of the Oregon Historical Society will be the presenters on Thursday February 11th at 6:30 p.m.
In December 2019, OHS published a special issue of the Oregon Historical Quarterly, offering an in-depth view of the ways Oregon history has been shaped by white supremacist ideology and policies – and resistance to those frameworks – for almost two centuries. The publication said that understanding how racism and justice are at the heart of Oregon’s history are crucial to the ability to build a better future. In the upcoming presentation Tymchuk and Canty-Jones will offer an overview of the importance of those subjects and invite attendees to access OHS resources for more learning.
