Staff with the City of Roseburg are seeking public feedback on a draft parking plan for downtown and the Laurelwood neighborhood.
Communications Specialist Eric Johnson said the plan will serve as a strategic roadmap for the creation of a new parking management team. Johnson said it was crafted by the Stakeholder Advisory Committee, city staff, and contracted parking consultants. The SAC has met monthly since September of last year to provide feedback, which has helped develop a plan which is fair and equitable.
Community Development Director Stuart Cowie said the document should be considered a “menu of options”. He said due to lack of funding and resources, not all the ideas can be implemented, at least not right away. Cowie said the first year of implementing the plan will be crucial to the success of the new parking system. He said feedback is needed to help staff decide which parts of the plan are most important to the public.
Johnson said staff recently completed a Downtown Parking survey which was sent out to the community in November of 2020. Over 300 completed surveys were recorded and feedback from the respondents was integrated into the draft plan.
A second virtual open house to take public comment will be Wednesday February 17th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast on the city’s Facebook page. Residents can submit questions during the live meeting.
