A Glendale woman was found deceased in the South Umpqua River on Monday afternoon, making her the third transient to have died in Roseburg in less than a month.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said just after 3:30 p.m. officers and other emergency services personnel responded to the river behind Gaddis Park. Eichenbusch said a passerby reported seeing a body floating in the river in that area. Officers located the woman, deceased, floating face-down in approximately 3 feet of water.
The Douglas County Medical Examiner was contacted and responded to the scene. During the investigation the decedent was identified as a 37-year old female. Eichenbusch said her family was contacted and said they had not seen or heard from her in 4 to 6 weeks. They further said she had some health issues and was living a transient lifestyle.
Eichenbusch said investigators did not observe any signs of foul play.
On December 28th, a 67-year old man was found deceased inside a tent near the Stewart Park Duck Pond. On January 8th, a 48-year old man was found deceased in a tributary of the river just west of the overpass columns, also in Gaddis Park.
