CITY COUNCIL HAS BUSY AGENDA FOR MONDAY MEETING

January 25, 2021 3:20 a.m.

The Roseburg City Council has a busy agenda for its Monday night meeting.

The meeting will begin an hour early at 6:00 p.m. to interview candidates for an open seat on the Planning Commission. Christy Palmini, Betty Wagner, Janelle Polcyn and former councilor Ashley Hicks will be interviewed individually.

The regular meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Councilors will consider a statement in support of Police Chief Gary Klopfenstein and local businesses and against coercion from local groups. Notes from staff said a local group was seeking to have Klopfenstein removed from office while another group “was pressuring local officials to comply with their wishes or face recall”. Neither organization is specifically mentioned.

Appointments to the Planning Commission, Airport Commission and Economic Development Commissions will be made.

Special presentations on a potential Sobering Center and on solid waste control will be given.

Councilors will consider ordinances related to prohibited camping, emergency powers for water system rules and regulations, and contracts. They will also vote on a proposed rate increase for Roseburg Disposal.

The meeting will be held via Zoom. It can be viewed from the city’s website or it’s Facebook page.
