January 21, 2021 3:45 p.m.

A positive case of COVID-19 has led to the temporary closure of Oakland High School.

Superintendent Patti Lovemark said the case was reported early Thursday morning, Lovemark said the district is working closely with the Douglas Public Health Network to protect the health of the school community. Lovemark said because Oakland is a small high school, many teachers see students of all grade levels, so they are opting to return to distance learning for the short term. The plan is to return to in person learning on Monday February 1st.

Lovemark said students who are in the cohort of the said individual’s classes were contacted along with all students and families of those attending the school. She said deep cleaning efforts have begun at the school

Lovemark said for parents who have another child in the district attending Oakland Elementary School or Lincoln Middle School, they are not impacted at this time. Those schools will continue with in person learning.
