The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon is part of a group of agencies working to stop potential violence in the state.

U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams said, “Like most Americans, I watched in disgust and anger as radical insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol in a shocking display of political violence”. He said there is no question that “…these violent acts were domestic terrorism aimed at disrupting Congress’ Constitutional duty to certify the electoral victory of President-elect Joe Biden”. Williams said the Justice Department and U.S. Attorney’s offices throughout the country are working tirelessly to identify and prosecute all forms of domestic terrorism, and those responsible will be brought to justice.

Williams said as the inauguration approaches, the threat of similar political violence around the country and in Oregon remains. He said his office is working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Protective Service, Oregon State Police, Portland Police and other law enforcement partners to identify, investigate and disrupt anyone intent on engaging in violence in the state.

Williams is asking for the public’s help to keep communities safe and protect all Oregonian’s First Amendment rights. Those with information on real or potential threats of violence at any upcoming demonstrations or events are asked to submit tips to the FBI at 503-224-4181 or by going to https://tips.fbi.gov/
