Deer Creek Village, an affordable multifamily development offering a preference for veterans, is nearing completion.

A release from NeighborWorks Umpqua said applications will be taken starting on Friday.

Communications Director Suzi Pritchard said the project on Northeast Douglas Avenue began in 2019 as an $18 million investment to address the need for housing in Roseburg. Pritchard said the units are energy efficient and feature a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom units. Housing will be available to veterans, individuals and small families making less than 60 percent of the area median income, or about $33,000 per year. Rents will range from $305 to $795, depending on the size of the unit and household income. Umpqua Community Property Management will manage the property.

NeighborWorks Umpqua Director of Acquisitions and Development, Brian Shelton-Kelley said vacancy rates in Roseburg are still really low and affordable, quality housing is hard to come by.

The release said Deer Creek Village is NeighborWorks Umpqua’s first significant affordable housing development since 2013. Applications will be available at: https://www.nwumpqua.org/deer-creek/ or outside the NeighborWorks Umpqua building on Kane Street in downtown Roseburg.

The project is expected to be finished by April of 2021.
