A Roseburg man died following a single vehicle accident on Tuesday.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said at about 11:10 a.m. officers, Roseburg Fire and other EMS personnel responded to the wreck in the 1900 block of Airport Road.
Witnesses said a pickup, towing a flatbed trailer with another pickup on it, was pulling onto Airport Road from a side street. Witnesses said the vehicle accelerated suddenly, going straight across the road, into the ditch and across the railroad tracks before stopping short of the airport fencing, as the trailer got stuck on the railroad tracks.
Eichenbusch said ambulance crews provided emergency care to the driver, a 49-year old man. He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Eichenbusch said based on statements from people who had contact with the driver just prior to the accident, and the circumstances of the wreck, it appeared the man was having a severe medical problem, which is what led to the accident. Eichenbusch said the man had no obvious injuries, and it appears his death was unrelated to the accident.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
