SAVING GRACE AND SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO PARTNER FOR VIRTUAL TRAINING

January 4, 2020 9:50 a.m.

Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will partner to host a virtual training for animal welfare professionals, law enforcement officers and anyone working in the legal field.

A release said the private event will take place on Wednesday. It is open to veterinarians and staff, attorneys and law enforcement officers statewide.

Saving Grace Executive Director Megan Gram said animal cruelty investigations and prosecution presents many unique issues. Gram said those who attend will learn about the animal cruelty laws and caselaw in Oregon, and how to effectively approach difficult cases, so that justice can be served for animal victims.

Gram said this is the first time this type of training has been available in the county. Gram said by providing this training, more local law enforcement officers and the District Attorney’s office will be able to investigate and prosecute cases with current best practices. She said that will make it much easier for animals to move through the shelter and into new homes.

The course will be led by Jake Kamins, Animal Cruelty Deputy District Attorney for the State of Oregon.
