The Sutherlin School District has an open position on its school board and is now accepting letters of interest to fill the position.

Superintendent Terry Prestianni said board member Jacob Masterfield submitted his resignation, with December 21st being his last board meeting. Masterfield had been appointed to the position on October 21st of 2019.

Prestianni said board vacancies are filled by appointment until June 30th of an off-numbered election year. That means this appointment will only be until June 30th of 2021. The individual elected in May of 2021 will then complete the remainder of the term ending June 30th, 2023.

The appointee much be a legally registered voter and a resident of the Sutherlin School District for one year immediately proceeding the appointment. The appointee cannot be an officer or an employee of the school district.

The appointment to fill the vacancy will take place at the January 2021 board meeting.

Residents can submit a letter of interest to Board Secretary Wendy Fennell by 12:00 p.m. on January 7th, at the school district office at 531 East Central in Sutherlin.
