A Medford man was jailed after an alleged criminal mischief incident in south Douglas County on Wednesday night.

A report from Oregon State Police said at about 10:30 p.m. a caller said there was a reckless driver on Interstate Five near Canyonville. A second caller said the same vehicle was later reported to be spinning “cookies” in a truck stop parking lot nearby.

The report said the man parked his vehicle in the middle of the semi-truck access area, took his dog out of the vehicle, and walked off. The suspect was later located coming back to his vehicle. He was alleged to be acting erratic and a trooper said the man smelled of alcohol.

The suspect, 47-year old Michael Gillespie of Medford, reportedly refused field sobriety tests. He was charged with DUII, second degree criminal mischief, for driving while suspended and for refusing to take the sobriety tests.  Bail was initially set at $16,250. Gillespie was released on Thursday.
