Four people were arrested and police are seeking another man, following protests that took place at the Oregon State Capitol on Monday.
A release from Oregon State Police said at about 8:30 a.m. a group attempted to enter and protest inside the Capitol building. That building is closed due to COVID precautions. The release said televisions had been set up outside for people to monitor the proceedings inside.
The building had been secured but a door on the northwest corner was opened by a person exiting the building. Several protestors entered the vestibule area. They were contacted by OSP and asked to leave. The release said as troopers attempted to keep the group from entering the main area of the Capitol, the altercation became physical including pushing. A protestor sprayed some kind of chemical irritant into the vestibule. Troopers used pepper balls to keep the crowd back.
The release said troopers and Salem Police gave everyone several warnings to leave or they would be arrested for trespassing. At approximately 10:30 a.m. a protestor again sprayed a chemical irritant at police. 41-year old Ryan Lyles was arrested for being a felon in possession of body armor and unlawful use of mace. Protestors also emitted smoke during the engagement.
Two people remained in the vestibule and were arrested. 75-year old Ronald Vanvlack and 53-year old Jerry Dyerson were charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. the crowd again attempted to gain entry through a door on the west side of the building. The window to the door was broken, but the building was not accessed. 35-year old Jeremiah Pruitt was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

40-year old Jeremy Roberts was identified as the person that attempted to gain access through the west door, and for an attack on two reporters. Troopers are trying to locate him and he is not currently in custody.
All those arrested were taken to the Marion County Jail.
The release said the Special Session of the legislature was able to continue and conduct business throughout the day.
