A Portland man was jailed following a two-hour slow speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 12:00 p.m. a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a sedan that was displaying the wrong license plate on Interstate Five northbound near Azalea.

The driver, later identified as 47-year old Jeffrey Fahey, failed to stop for the deputy which resulted in the pursuit. O’Dell said Fahey led the deputy off the freeway, onto Upper Cow Creek Road, through forest roads over the mountain and down onto the Tiller Trail Highway at mostly slow speeds. Spike strips were deployed successfully three times but the suspect continued to attempt to elude deputies.

O’Dell said at 1:50 p.m. the vehicle failed in the 21,000 block of Tiller Trail Highway, and came to a stop. Fahey allegedly fled the car on foot but was captured a short time later.

Deputies learned that while the vehicle had been stolen, it had not yet been reported to law enforcement. Fahey was charged with attempt to elude in a vehicle, unlawful use of a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, third degree escape, second degree counts of disorderly conduct and theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental and judicial administration and for a warrant. After arraignment Friday, Fahey remained detained on $36,250 bail.

O’Dell said DCSO was assisted by the Myrtle Creek Police, Roseburg Police, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.
