Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people following a stolen vehicle pursuit on Wednesday.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell said at about 1:00 p.m. a patrol sergeant observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe with a missing front license plate in the 700 block of John Long Road in Rice Hill. A DMV check showed the license plate had expired four years ago and was for a black Tahoe.
O’Dell said the suspect was acting suspiciously and attempted to avoid deputies. A short time later, the sergeant and a deputy attempted to contact the driver in the parking lot of a business. As they approached, the driver accelerated and tried to get away, striking the deputy’s vehicle.
O’Dell said the driver attempted to elude as he entered the freeway on-ramp at which point the vehicle rolled onto its side. The driver, identified as 32-year old Noah Kuro of Oakland, was detained a short time later. A passenger, 28-year old Jessica Cowart, also of Oakland, was also taken into custody. No injuries were sustained in the incident.
Kuro was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude in a vehicle, failure to perform the duties of a driver, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, first degree criminal mischief, and for a probation violation. He was detained without bail. Cowart was held for possession of a stolen vehicle. She was released on Thursday.
O’Dell said the Tahoe had been stolen out of Washington state.
