DRIVER CITED AFTER LOG TRUCK CRASH

A driver was cited following a log truck crash early Tuesday.

A report from Oregon State Police said the wreck happened at 2:50 a.m. on Highway 38 in the Elkton area. The report said evidence at the scene and a driver statement, indicate the man fell asleep while driving. The vehicle went off the eastbound shoulder, down an embankment, and crashed into a group of trees.

The driver left the scene before the trooper arrived. The man was transported in a private vehicle to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. The report said a trooper spotted a pill bottle at the accident scene that had the driver’s name on it. Inside was allegedly a small amount of methamphetamine and straws.

The driver was cited for careless driving and for possession of a controlled substance in a commercial motor vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
