On Thursday, the Oregon Health Authority reported the highest daily case count for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
1,122 new confirmed and presumptive cases and 4 more deaths were announced. That raises the state’s death toll to 746 and the state case total to 53,779.
The update said small social gatherings continue to act as a catalyst for COVID-19 transmission. A portion of this week’s rising cases can be attributed to at least five Halloween events, from small social gatherings to a party attended by more than 100 people, according to OHA.
The new cases include:
*351 in Multnomah County
*169 in Washington County
*123 in Jackson County
*102 each in Marion and Clackamas counties
*65 in Lane County
*44 in Umatilla County
*28 in Deschutes County
*26 in Yamhill County
*20 in Benton County
*19 in Polk County
*14 in Douglas County
*9 in Klamath County
*8 each in Columbia and Linn counties
*5 in Wasco County
*4 each in Grant and Josephine counties
*3 each in Curry, Hood River and Morrow counties
*2 in Union County
*1 in Baker, Clatsop, Harney, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties
The new deaths ranged in age from 35 to 95. 1 each lived in Lane, Clackamas, Marion and Multnomah counties.
