FEMA STILL TAKING REGISTRATIONS FROM THOSE IMPACTED BY WILDFIRES

Staff with the federal emergency management agency is still taking registrations from those affected by the recent wildfires.

Nate Custer of FEMA said registration is open to those affected in eight counties, including Douglas. Resident can apply via the FEMA app or by calling 800-621-3362 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week. The deadline for signing up is November 16th.

Custer said the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance has been extended to November 27th. Employees in Douglas and seven other counties may be eligible for benefits if their work was substantially impacted by the wildfires or straight-line winds that began on September 7th. Custer said so far FEMA has received disaster assistance applications from 24,252 individuals. It has awarded $24.98 million to eligible survivors from around the state.
