November 4, 2020 9:15 a.m.

The Umpqua National Forest, Diamond Lake Ranger District is temporarily closing Forest Service Road 34, just past the junction of Road 34 and Toketee Lake Campground.

Mark Turney of the Forest Service said that closure will begin on November 9th and last until approximately November 20th. It is taking place to install a wildlife passage for a species of interest.

Umpqua National Forest Engineer Luis Palacios said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service considers the Pond Turtle in that area to be a species of interest. He said habitat improvement funds from Pacific Power are being used to install the passageway.

Monitor the Umpqua’s Facebook page and website to check on the current status of the project.
