A student at East Primary School in Sutherlin has tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Terry Prestianni said on Sunday the district started notifying staff and parents of children in the cohort that a student tested positive, asking them to quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. Prestianni said someone from the Douglas Public Health Network will be in daily phone contact to provide additional monitoring.
In-person learning will resume for the students and staff that are not being quarantined.
An East Primary student tested positive for COVID-19 in late September. Later another student and one staff person were considered presumptive cases and were also listed as positive by health officials.
Prestianni said the district will continue to follow and maintain guidelines from the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education. That includes practicing handwashing, physical distancing to degree possible, requiring people to wear masks inside buildings and upholding cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
