UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST ANNOUNCES CAMPGROUND CLOSURES

October 28, 2020 3:10 a.m.

The Umpqua National Forest has begun shutting down several campgrounds for their annual winter closures.

Mark Turney of the Forest Service said the remaining campgrounds will be closed November 30th, or earlier if needed due to weather. Campgrounds under emergency fire closure orders will remain closed through their winter season.

That means while some campgrounds remain open year-round, others are now closed, with still others closing later.

Alice Carlton, Umpqua National Forest Supervisor said they are pleased that many people found enjoyment recreating in their public lands this year, especially on the Umpqua National Forest. She said based on public requests, some of the campgrounds have been kept open later than normal.

In keeping with CDC and State of Oregon guidelines for social distancing, the Umpqua Hot Springs, fire lookouts, group picnic sites and cabins will remain closed.

Information about the status of the campgrounds is posted with our story at www.541radio.com
