A Roseburg man is deceased and a Wilbur woman has been charged with second degree manslaughter, following a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday night.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 8:00 p.m. dispatchers received a report of the crash on Highway 99 North near Deady Crossing, outside of Sutherlin.

O’Dell said deputies responded and determined an SUV operated by 29-year old Breanna Adkins was headed southbound and drove into the path on an oncoming vehicle, operated by 33-year old Carlos Rivas of Roseburg. Rivas was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives with DCSO as well as members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded and took over the investigation.

Adkins was transported to Mercy Medical Center where she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Adkins was determined to be under the influence of intoxicants and was ultimately arrested.

Other charges include second degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Bail was set at $510,000 but after arraignment was increased to $1 million.

O’Dell said anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information pertinent to the investigation is asked to call DCSO at 440-4458.

DCSO was assisted by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, police departments in Roseburg and Sutherlin, Sutherlin Fire and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
