The 37th annual Umpqua River Clean Up runs through Sunday but like almost everything else, it is being organized differently this year.
Normally, Umpqua Watersheds would be organizing teams of people in various spots along the Umpqua River, providing bags and coordinating pick up of the bags. Due to COVID-19, those wanting to clean the river will not meet in groups.
Umpqua Watersheds is asking people to take their own trash bags to the river and pickup garbage. Then dispose of it on their own at the landfill or in an approved dumpster. Those helping can share their pictures of river cleanup activities and send them to janice@umpquawatersheds.org. A collage of the pictures will be shared on the group’s website and on its social media platforms.
Those helping are asked to avoid areas impacted by the recent wildfires.
