Staff with the Roseburg office of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife are dealing with the destruction at the Rock Creek Fish Hatchery.

Megan Dugan said with the exception of the Rock Ed Education Center, all buildings and employee housing were either destroyed or severely damaged by the Archie Creek Fire.

Dugan said right now staff is attempting to remove remaining adult spring Chinook and summer Steelhead and transport them to the Cole Rivers Hatchery to spawn and collect enough eggs to meet production goals, if possible. She said juvenile mortality could top 400,000 but the number won’t be known until a full assessment is made.
