AIR POLLUTION/DENSE SMOKE ADVISORIES

September 14, 2020 4:15 a.m.

An Air Pollution Advisory remains in effect until further notice, with a Dense Smoke Advisory in place through 12:00 p.m. Monday for central Douglas County and much of the region.

Officials with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said wildfires burning in the region, combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels at times. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, can aggravate heart and lung diseases, and can aggravate other serious health problems. Residents should limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors when it is smoky.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said driving conditions are hazardous with visibility of a quarter mile or less in the dense smoke.

Monday morning air quality levels are well into the Hazardous category in the Umpqua Valley, according to the DEQ.
