September 7, 2020 3:50 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Umpqua National Forest and surrounding areas.

Forecasters said the warning is in effect from 11:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.

An Urgent Fire Weather Message said strong, gusty winds with low relative humidity and high fire danger will likely contribute to a significant spread of new and existing fires. Winds up to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour are anticipated. Humidity will be as low as 6 percent with overnight recoveries as low as 15 to 20 percent.

Red Flag warnings are in place for much of western Oregon as well.
