Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies dealt with three fires on Friday.

Kyle Reed said at about 1:50 p.m. DFPA, along with fire fighters from the Myrtle Creek Rural Fire Department, Winston-Dillard Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to a fire four miles northwest of Myrtle Creek. Upon arrival crews reported a quarter acre fire near the end of Homestead Lane that was threatening a house and a barn. Reed said an aggressive initial attack stopped the forward spread of the Homestead Lane Fire at a half acre of wildland fuels. Firefighters remained on the scene until about 4:00 p.m. A preliminary investigation indicated that the Homestead Lane Fire was caused by a beaver weakened tree that fell into power lines.

Reed said firefighters from DFPA and North Douglas County Fire and EMS responded to a small grass fire four miles northwest of Oakland, near the Cabin Creek Rest Area. Crews arrived on the scene of the Cabin Creek Fire at approximately 2:20 p.m. and quickly extinguished the fire. It burned 1/100th of an acre of grass. The preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the fire was power line related.

Firefighters from DFPA and Lookingglass Rural Fire Department were sent to a grass fire four miles northwest of Winston near the 9,500 block of Lookingglass Road. Firefighters arrived at about 5:50 p.m. and reported a slow-moving grass fire that was spreading up a hillside. About five minutes later the incident commander said that the Lookingglass Road #2 Fire was stopped at a quarter acre of grass. Firefighters remained until 9:20 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire danger remains extreme on lands protected by DFPA.
